About Us

High Down Junior School is a happy and well thought of school. It was opened in 1968 and currently has 361 children on roll. The school overlooks the picturesque Gordano Valley and is set in extensive grounds with playing fields, an environment area, adventure play area, skittle alley, large chess set and a conservation area. The school serves not only the town of Portishead but also many of the surrounding villages.

High Down is a caring community. Many staff and all the governors live locally and many of our own children have attended the school. We have a shared vision, aims and values for our school and these underpin our determination to provide the very best education for the children in our care. The quality of relationships between teaching and non-teaching staff, parents, pupils and governors is a strength of the school.

High Down is proud of its academic standards, encouraging pupils of all abilities to achieve their very best.
