Who's Who
High Down School's community is made up from a large cross-section of people all of whom contribute to making High Down Junior School the pleasant and friendly school it is. In this section you can find out who the members of the teaching and support staff are, who is on the Board of Governors and who is involved with the Parents Association and the School Council. Obvioulsy, the most important stakeholders- the children, cannot all be listed!
As well as all those members of staff and volunteers, we also receive huge support from parents and families as helpers both during and after school. The interest in the school from the wider community and local neighbourhood is also very much appreciated. We also like to involve the local community and enable use of the school facilites and sports field through school lettings.
High Down operates a House System. Children are put into one of the 4 houses on entering the school and can earn House Points for their house in many different ways - good behaviour, good work, supporting and helping others etc. We also hold several house sporting events during the year where house teams compete, not only for house points, but also for school trophies. A boy and a girl from Year 6 are elected, each year by their house, to act as House Captains. The four houses are Mayflower, Endeavour, Victory, Discovery.
Many of our children join us from our neighbouring school High Down Infants and move on to Gordano School when they leave us, aged 11. We have excellent relationships with both schools to ensure that the transitions from Infants into Year 3 and then from Year 6 into Gordano are as smooth as possible with the child's individual needs and interests taken into consideration.
